Date of birth

Needed for your Rising sign and houses. Check your birth certificate.

The chart is calculated in your browser. Your birth details are not saved or sent anywhere; only the city name you type is searched on our server.

    What a birth chart shows

Most people know their Sun sign, which comes from your birth date alone. A full chart adds the Moon, which describes how you feel and what makes you feel safe, and the Rising sign (or Ascendant), which describes how others tend to meet you. Together these three are often called the Big Three.

The other planets add detail: Mercury for how you think and talk, Venus for what you value and how you love, Mars for drive and conflict, and the slower planets for themes that shape a whole generation.

    How this calculator works

We calculate the position of each body on the ecliptic for your birth instant, using your local time and the time zone of your birthplace, and then read off the zodiac sign (tropical zodiac). The Rising sign is the sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birthplace at that moment, so it needs your birth time.

Without a birth time we still show your Sun, the other planets and your Moon. The Moon changes sign about every two and a half days, so if it was close to a sign change we tell you we can't be sure which side you were on.

A note on how to use it

Astrology is a tool for self-reflection and entertainment, not a prediction of events and not a substitute for medical, legal, financial or psychological advice. Use the results as a prompt to think about yourself, not as a verdict.

    Frequently asked questions

Do I need my birth time?

For the Sun and the planets, no. For your Rising sign and houses, yes, and the more exact the better, because the Rising sign changes roughly every two hours.

Where do I find my birth time?

Your birth certificate usually has it. If not, ask a parent or look at hospital records. If you can't find it, your Sun and planets are still accurate.

Why does my Moon sign sometimes say it is uncertain?

The Moon moves about 13 degrees a day. Without a birth time, a Moon near the start or end of a sign could be in either sign on your birth date.

    Is my information saved?

No. The chart is computed in your browser. Only the city name you type is sent to our server, to find coordinates and the time zone, and it is not stored with your date of birth.
